Kyrgystan
mountains and nomads

Kyrgystan

Kyrgyzstan, a small mountain republic with overwhelming nature and still present nomadic culture. And these two elements form the core of our travel programs in this friendly country. Abundant nature, horses, yurts, and contact with the local population.

A central place in the country and in the travel programs holds the large and crystal clear lake Issyk Kul, the second largest mountain lake in the world, located at an altitude of 1,800 meters. In summer it attracts, mainly on the north side, a large number of holidaymakers from Bishkek and from Kazakhstan, while the south side is almost untouched and offers plenty of opportunities for a quiet swim. A tour around Issyk offers a wide variety of natural and cultural attractions as well as good facilities. When you move deeper into the land and the mountains, the level of adventure will increase while the facilities become more basic.

In addition, Kyrgyzstan hosts a number of very interesting historical sites of the era of the Silk Road, for example the great 15th- century caravanserai Tash Rabat at 3,530 meters!

Special attention to the many opportunities for trekking in Kyrgyzstan. We have two treks described in detail on this website, but the number of possibilities is much greater. Roughly speaking, you can opt for accessible hikes in the Ala Tau mountains near Bishkek; or enter the land of nomads on the south side of Issyk Kul in Tersky Alatau Mountains; or start the "serious work" in the Central Tien Shan Mountains in the far east of the country. Here you will find the highest peaks, up to 7,000 meters and higher, and also the famous Merzbacher lake with its icebergs in mid-summer.

Tours start normally in Bishkek, the green capital with its large parks, pleasant to have a stroll, and an international airport. For example Turkish Airlines visits daily. Arriving overland from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and China is also possible. The combination with a tour program in Uzbekistan, crossing the border in the Fergana Valley close to Osh, capital of the southern part of the country, is particularly popular.

The offered programs are examples of possible tours. We gladly create your desired tour with you.

An important detail: since 2012 tourists from Western countries don't need to apply in advance for a visa anymore, you receive it upon arrival!
