As a result of a border dispute – over water – in 2022, the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan was closed. As a result, travelers who would like to combine the two countries were also faced with additional problems. For example, the tour through the Pamirs – largely through Tajikistan but with a start or finish in Osh in Kyrgyzstan – can no longer be carried out in the original way.

One option to combine both countries is to travel a short distance in Uzbekistan. It borders both countries and it does not require much extra travel via the Fergana valley.

We can only hope that in 2024 both countries will come to their senses and, to their mutual benefit, open the borders again!
