Kyrgyzstan is a mountain republic, as is well-known. Around Issyk Kul lake you will already get acquainted with high mountains. But what would it be like to go across the country from Lake Issyk to the border with Uzbekistan in the west? In August 2019 I put it to the test. Including visits to the central town of Naryn and the famous caravanserai Tash Rabat we traveled through the mountains to the walnut forests or Arslan Bob with driver and guide. A spectacular route, especially the sections between Son Kul and Tash Rabat, between Naryn and Kazarman, and above all between Kazarman and Jalal Abad! It is not unsafe – provided you have a good driver – but the variety of mountains, rocks, canyons & colors make this route, which is only passable in the summer, an unforgettable one. Not to mention homestays and route in Kazarman and Arslan Bob.
